THE TALKS

Andrea “Dre” Scharf - Viewing the day-to-day through a playful lens

“I want to talk about the benefits of putting a spin on daily mundane situations and how this also highlights relatability between us. I‘ll include some bonus tips on how to get sh*t done if you’re a perfectionist and tend to overthink everything ;)”

Ines Häufler - #becreative365

„Some years ago I realized that I am stuck in front of a computer screen most of the time and how much I missed being creative. So on January 1st, 2011, I decided to start a side project and do something creative every day, for one year."

Bailey Richardson - Combinatorial Creativity: How we find inspiration in one another

“Combinatorial Creativity: How we find inspiration in one another.

I'll hit two points:

  1. Ground the concept inspiration from a personal point of view. Personally, I love to take inspiration from the crowd.

  2. Then zoom in on a few principles / examples of interesting communities I've studied in which members successfully and meaningfully share information/insights/ideas that lead to creative inspiration.”

BOOKMARKED is a bi-monthly gathering to explore selected readings that amplifies our imagination and widens our perspectives through discussions.

OUR BOOK CLUB

The gym’s book club - BOOKMARKED - is running down in bi-monthly intervals. We decide for a book and meet up to discuss it in a 2 hours session.

The books we select are meant to foster imagination and/or support us with our creative process. Through discussion we widen our perspective and learn new points of view.

The book clubs are moderated by us and designed to trigger inspiring discussions.

THE BOOK

Austin Kleon - Keep Going

From the authors website:

“The world is crazy. Creative work is hard. Whether you’re burned out, starting out, starting over, or wildly successful, the question is always the same: How do you keep going?

In my previous books — the New York Times bestsellers Steal Like An Artist and Show Your Work! — I showed readers how to steal their way to a more creative life and then share their creativity to get discovered. In Keep Going, I’ll show you 10 ways to stay creative, focused, and true to yourself in the face of personal burnout and external distractions:

1. Every day is Groundhog Day.
2. Build a bliss station.
3. Forget the noun, do the verb.
4. Make gifts.
5. The ordinary + extra attention = the extraordinary
6. Slay the art monsters.
7. You’re allowed to change your mind.
8. When in doubt, tidy up.
9. Demons hate fresh air.
10. Plant your garden.”

- Austin Kleon

Jake Knapp - Make time: How to Focus on What Matters Every Day

content.jpeg

What if you could step off the hamster wheel and start taking control of your time and attention? As creators of Google Ventures' renowned 'design sprint', Jake and John have helped hundreds of teams solve important problems by changing how they work. Building on the success of these sprints and their experience designing ubiquitous tech products like Gmail and YouTube, they spent years experimenting with their own personal habits and routines, looking for ways to help individuals optimize their energy, focus, and time. Now they've packaged the most effective tactics into a four-step daily framework that anyone can use to systematically design their days.Making time isn't about radically overhauling your lifestyle; it's about making small shifts in your environment to liberate yourself from constant busyness and distraction. Make Time is a must-read for anyone who has ever thought 'if only there were more hours in the day...'
