OVERVIEW

This course is designed with non-designers in mind.

The aim is to show beginners, that everybody can (self-)learn and apply basic design principles and skills.

In this particular course, we will focus on User Experience Design by laying out the beginnings for a (web) app idea for a sample project.

COURSE GOALS

Create a first, rough, clickable prototype of your idea.

Learn valuable techniques that you can apply on digital and analogue, professional or everyday challenges.

Providing a starting point from where you can explore further in-depth opportunities for which you now have a better understanding.

KICK-OFF / INFO EVENING

HCD Intro

Learn about the human-centered approach during a mini-challenge that shows you important design principles. You will tap into your new skill- and mindset to complete the course project: a (web) app (project details to follow).

 

DAY 1

SAT, 27 May 2017, 10:00 - 17:00

User Interviews / Synthesis

Practice interviewing skills to uncover your user’s needs and motivations and other hidden aspects of the challenge at hand. 

Ideation and visual thinking

Learn (visual) thinking techniques and apply them right away to generate ideas that solve your user’s specific problem. 

Site Maps & User Flows

Turn your research findings and ideas into first drafts of your (web) app. Sketch out your (web) apps site map and one or two important user flows.

Moodboards

End your first day with researching inspirations for the look and feel of your solution. Find good sources for inspiration and how to capture and organize them.

DAY 2

Rapid Prototyping

Create high-fidelity prototypes in the form of mock-ups and wireframes. Learn three tools/techniques to create your clickable prototype. Choose one you feel the most comfortable with.

Testing

Learn how to test your prototypes. Apply your skills right away and test your clickable prototype on the partner you designed for.

Debrief

Time to relax and reflect on what you’ve learned. You share your experience and idea with others over a Pizza.
